SAW VI (6)
[Gales Entertainment Scale (GES): Superb-Story 8]
(Movie Release Year: 2009)

Any ‘crooked business person’s’ nightmare for sure! XD If I was to give a ‘Movie Reference’ for this film like the writers for the ‘Video Warehouse Pamphlet’ so awesomely do each month, I should most certainly say that SAW VI [six] is much like and in parallel similarity to “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.” The energy emitted from SAW VI of course, is much-much darker—as Sweeney Todd at least has the whole ‘sing-your-feelings-musical’ theme going about it for the characters—along with the ‘gore’ and ‘sick-mind-factor.’ [Which now on second thought… I really don’t know whether to think of as ‘less’ or ‘more’ scary… O_O;] Of course, after seeing this SAW, I truly am not completely sure of what direction SAW VII is going to take. Upon seeing this ‘Story Extension’ to the awesome James Wan storyline of an Architect who’s life of generalized-happiness-and-success is brought to a screeching halt after his son is murdered in the womb and he is diagnosed with a malignant cancer which his insurance company refuses to cover… I am all-too-interested. ^^; What truly has this series ‘tick’ like the clocks which rush the dark-and-graphic carnage this series is well-known for—is its ‘out-of-time’ storyline which is ‘fed’ to curious viewers and ‘story-seekers’ worldwide [from U.S. to Japan and back around again! =D] completely hooked to this series. In fact… I would say that the ‘gore factor’ and ‘traps of death-tests’ come in only secondary for the true consistent viewer of the SAW film series. Such hesitant ‘citizens of the public mind’ I sincerely do believe are missing out on a great—appalling at times—but great tale of just how devious it is indeed some human beings can be. And in saying so—I don’t mean the ‘killer—’ I mean the ‘so-called’ victims! In SAW VI, we learn of Umbrella Insurance and how it intentionally selects ‘Healthy’ individuals who pay-on-time and then neglect ‘expensive procedures’ in order to ‘save on company costs.’ I could not help but think of the current ‘Food Market’ with its ‘High Fructose Corn Syrups’ and man-transformed ‘Trans Fats’ whilst viewing this film. The very cancer which we battle as well as—gosh—creator-knows-what-other-diseases—are very likely created from the consumption of such foods which are made with the knowledge of being a ‘potential hazard to the body’ specifically for the very same purpose ‘Umbrella Insurance’ would drop individuals who truly desired the aide of their ‘selected company:’ To ‘Save Money.’ Greed. Self-Serving/Self-centeredness only to uphold the self whilst kicking other would-be-friends in front of speeding highway traffic [allegorically]. Hatred for another for having what another has not. What intrigues me about the SAW series [especially SAW V and SAW VI] is that such attributes that would often be thought to be interlaced with the ‘Bad Guy’ [John Kramer/Jigsaw in this ‘Police/Detective-Drenched’ story and case…]—is applied to whom society often views and looks-up-to as the ‘Good Guys’ [Umbrella Insurance, Bribe-accepting accountants, Hotel Owners with dirty-and-murderous-secrets behind closed doors and away from ‘the public eye.’] I still am unable to shake the ‘Carousel of Death’ scene is still lodged in my head [or ‘Wheel of Death’ as I had heard it called online—but I refused to watch a single advertisement for SAW VI—as I did not want to do anything besides view the film and then assess it for the understanding of this given soul. In other words—I didn’t want to spoil the movie! XD] The scene truly reveals how each person—whether male or female—woman or man—when in the face of death [or being ‘selected for being special’] will ‘blurt-out-all-potential-qualities’ [even potentially making up some sometimes. ^^; “I’m pregnant! I’m pregnant” “She’s lying! She’s lying!”]—to continue to house ‘Soul’ within the ‘Current Vehicle of The Self.’ As I call it, ‘The Carousel of Babble’ [truly a ‘Sick Cycle Carousel’ by practically the stretch of any of Lifehouse’s darkest imaginations by far…] was creepy… funny [in a dark sense of humor—the audience would continue to chuckle here-and-there at some of the statements made by the ‘Umbrella Insurance’ employees latched to it]… and informative all at the same time. Honestly—I overheard two women behind me say exactly what I was thinking upon being relayed what was happening and what part the devious [but changing...] ‘Umbrella Insurance’ corporate-head was ‘responsible’ for in John Kramer’s unjust [but Kramer-self-justified] ‘Game.’ “He is proba’ly gonna save the women.” I couldn’t predicted-nor-interpreted the scene’s end clearer myself!^^ And indeed… he did… he saved the woman with two children and the woman who seemingly had the most to live for. [I believe much of the audience would have made the same exact decision. I for one, certainly would have.] I shall certainly admit, that the young woman claiming she was ‘healthy’ then that she was ‘pregnant’ then that she… was certainly an understandable person [panicking and not wanting to pass…]; however—her ‘sudden blurts’ did a very good job [in my humble opinion] of presenting the sometimes-selfish-desire of human nature as a whole. When a person thinks ‘I can be selected for what I want’ or ‘what is it I can say that will have this person pick-me-over-that-person?’ …the horror of lies can often surpass even the ‘horrors of the most grizzly of deaths’ [no joke]. The shouting and screaming of words from the ‘unselected’ [“You don’t even know her!” “YOU PUSSY-WHIPPED MOTHERFUCKER!!”] also added onto the ‘pile of human horror’ which builds the ‘Fortress of Lies’ which are often faced even in our casual day-to-day life. These individuals were all people who worked for the man who made the ‘Final Decision’ [pun intended] on who to employ and who not to employ. And in the mind of John Kramer… ultimately… who would die and who would not die. Although in a much-more ‘corporate-glamour’ and ‘glorified’ light… this man truly was not very different from the judge presented in ‘Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.’ “Was he guilty?” “I don’t know, but he should be.” Wow. The ‘Heated Maze’ scene was relatively sexy [a sweating woman being helped-and-aided by a caring man]—well… until skin began to be ‘burned open’ and the inevitable happened… [sweat on a woman to me is a HUGE turn on. Again, speaking only for me, blood is an ENORMOUS turn-off.] Indeed, throughout SAW VI, this ‘not-very-humble-insurance-exec’ had some very difficult choices to make. But in contrast, the ‘horrific-beauty’ of the circumstance was that this man… was already doing this so to speak [killing people.] Simply more indirectly, and with much more ‘perceived control.’ I would say that in the ‘Twisted Sense’ of ‘Twisted Pictures’ this contrast truly does give this highly anticipated film’s viewers a great deal of what was bargained for—plus some! [Like those ‘U.S. Chinese Meal Restaurants’ with all the rice and chicken included with Steamed Vegetables! ^_^] I’d certainly say that SAW VI answers a lot of ‘Unanswered Questions’ regarding Jigsaw/John Kramer, Jill Tuck [his ex-wife] and the circumstances surrounding their lives. I truly did not realize until this film [and I think it was much intended this way], that Jigsaw was not simply ‘randomly’ and ‘actively seeking’ people who had transformed themselves into ‘Self-Victims.’ It is revealed in SAW VI, that the people who are ‘taken’ by John Kramer & Associates [pun intended ^^;] are individuals who John Kramer knew or had indirect contact with at some point during his life in New York. With that statement made—it actually has the ‘horror of SAW’ all the more believable—as people are well aware that although New York and California offer great opportunity to those who are ‘helped along…’ there are also a great deal of ‘Sicko-Psychos’ and ‘Path-Straying’ individuals throughout the world and within the U.S.—but especially in California and New York state. With that said, SAW VI has the circumstances under which John Kramer aka Jigsaw ‘creates’ and is ‘created’ by in the ‘Fictional World of SAW…’ very believable. Now I’m just interested to see where Twisted Pictures is going to take SAW VII next year!! ^_^ [And just how far ‘Lionsgate Films’ will let them go! XD]. In closing, I would like to say that I’m glad I slept before writing this review of SAW VI! XD Not only was I really tired… I also didn’t realize a few things [elements within this film and subsequent SAW films…] until I awoke early this morning [caught the 9:00 PM showing of SAW VI. A moderate audience compared to what I was expecting to find there. ^^;] I truly like and dig on the fact that SAW VI [as previous SAW films] have viewers all-at-the-same-time feeling sorry for the ‘victim…’ then understand ‘why this person was already a victim-of-the-self…’ and then gradually it is presented—a ‘blood-clotting’ situation which often either gets one-of-two-responses from the viewing audience(s): Utter-silence-and-disgust… or loud-uncertain-laughter [much like children laugh upon hearing the ‘part-of-the-story’ when ‘The Millstone rolls-over-and-undoes the Stepmother.’] Of course, the story begins… after a shocking and ‘OH-MY-GOHD! What-the-fuck!?’ opening to ‘whet’ and inspire ‘curiosity’ within the audience-of-viewers. Indeed a superb-story and ‘sequenced formula’ James Wan! ^_^ Indeed you have come far as a Screenwriter and Director in a very impressive amount of time with a very impressive detective/thriller/horror film! =) [That unlike many ‘Halloween Horror Pleasers…’ actually lead the audience to ‘Think About Society’ as a whole. Indeed a couple of the quotes in SAW VI got verbal confirmations of, “That’s true” from outspoken individuals in the otherwise ‘silently-shocked’ audience. ^_^] Good job all-involved with SAW! ^_^ I certainly hope my ‘video collage’ ‘SAW Synopsis’ [a tribute to SAW 6 covering all SAWs released from the superb SAW I through the AWESOME SAW V synched to my ‘Hello Zepp’ remix of the awesome and memorable tune of ‘Charlie Clouser’ of Nine Inch Nail Fame! ^_^] did this series Justice. ^_^ All-in-all, I certainly look forward to [the closing chapter??] next year: SAW VII! <This Writing Began: 6:54 AM, October 24th, 2009, Friday. Writing Completed: 8:54 AM [Same-day]> P.S. Upon releasing ‘SAW Synopsis’ and ‘SAW Theme [Hello Zepp] (TIGER M no Sharp Silver SAW Remix)’ I learned a great deal of people are soooooo bothered by the public reviews surrounding the ‘gore factor’ in SAW that the ‘depth of story’ and ‘intense rapture’ this film gives off for the tale and screenplay alone are often ignored. Oy! ^^; Afraid you might end up in a Jigsaw trap or *gasps!* building one like it one day or becoming some secluded dark-minded-psycho if viewing the film? Sheesh. With well over 100-million views worldwide last year for SAW V—all I can say is… you better not leave your doorstep if it is thought ‘horror films’ ‘transform.’ And for the [police!] record… ‘SAW’ is truly more of a ‘Detective/Thriller’ than ‘Horror Film.’ ^^; But I surely shall not deny, that if you are squeamish… SAW certainly is not a film you want to view! ^_^ However, I learned that some of the people who are so worried as to not even give this film a look—would joke about decapitations and the severing of limbs in movies such as ‘300,’ ‘Saving Private Ryan’ or super-bloody-anime such as ‘The End of Evangelion’ and ‘Claymore.’ Mai ii ka. ^^; Human beings are rather interesting creatures; yes-sir-yes-sir three-bags-full. ^^; P.S.S. Have I really been writing that long!? XD Geesh. O_O; ^_^ F.I.L., -DJ, TM |
